Singer-songwriter Amber Nichols recently lit up televisions across the nation with her soul stirring rendition of the London Grammar Hit Strong. Her blind audition on The Voice Australia had all five coaches turning their chairs for a chance to work with the talented songstress and the nation declaring she had the “voice of an angel”.

Not letting anything hold her back Amber progressed through to the live shows, making Jessie J’s final three contestants and continued to capture and captivate audiences across Australia all whilst carrying her second child. A true inspiration to those chasing their dreams no matter the circumstance, her stunning vocals and unique journey inspired the hearts of many.

Canberra’s best kept secret Amber began her career as lead singer for atmospheric rock band Angels Are Architects. Known for their haunting vocals, ambient guitar riffs and spacey back beats, Angels soon made a name for themselves with their first live performance seeing them take out the state final of the famed National Band Campus competition.

Appearances on MTV followed as well as tours to Asia including showcases in Japan with Sounds Australia, mentoring, teaching and entertaining youth in Malaysia and Indonesia, and performing alongside music royalty at The Mosaic Festival in Singapore. Their final gig saw them entertaining a crowd of sixty thousand on Christmas Day 2011 for Celebrate Christmas in Singapore.

With the Angels era coming to a close Amber made the bold move to step out solo, sharing songs and stories that had previously never left the bedroom.

Her Debut Release Oh My Lullaby contained a beautiful collection of emotive pieces including the title track penned for her brother Ethan who has Down Syndrome. The honesty with which she writes can often leave a listener wiping away a tear and it was this raw emotional connection that saw her crowned Canberra’s POP artist of the year and a finalist in the Musicoz Awards, Australian’s Independent Music awards. Not only were her talents recognised locally however, she was also awarded the great honour of a nomination in the World Wide Independent Music Awards.

Her new single Fear and Wonder is another example of heart breaking honesty as she shares with you her journey of becoming a parent. Straight out of a diary page, she chronicles her fears, excitement and wonder as she experiences motherhood for the first time. Her luminous vocals combined with her delicate melodies are both uniquely haunting and soulfully uplifting.

With influences ranging from Joni Mitchell to Sia, her emotive tone and genuine love for creating beautiful music has shown Amber is on the rise as one of Australia’s great new talents.

Amber is an advocate for both cancer and mental health support services as well as an ambassador for Carers Australia who’s primary purpose is to value and support the contribution that carers make both to the people they care for and to the community as a whole.

I had the pleasure of working with Amber recently and I was most impressed. We recorded some tracks together and I am a big fan of her vocal tone and delivery. The job was made easy because of her focused attitude and innate understanding of the songs. She is a talented and dedicated singer and a joy to be around.
